Tamar Assaf, artist, resides in Californias bay area since early 2000. Assaf was born in Israel, where she earned her degree in Natural Sciences. Since her move to California she devotes her time to study and create art.
Growing up on the outskirts of a small town, Assaf spent most of her childhood outdoors, in nature. As years passed by the town expanded. Housing projects, asphalt roads, concrete slabs and sterile gardening took over orchards and wildflower fields.
Overexploitation of land and natural resources are manmade activities that lead to destruction of habitats, resulting in imbalanced ecosystems. Many animals no longer exist in the wild and are found only in zoos and reserves.
Assaf's artwork is a subtle commentary of human influence on nature. Her unique fragmental images are her way of documenting the loss of animals from the wild and the changing ecosystems
