My animal paintings are the last step in a long
process that can take anywhere from a few
weeks to several months.
My process begins with photographing
my 'subject' animals
Bisons in the paddock, at Golden Gate Park,
San Francisco, California
Going through my bison photographs,
to study the animal's features
Sketching various angles of my subject animal
Outlining the chosen design onto my wood panel
Working in layers, using my palette knives,
to build up the rich texture
Mixing thick, heavy paint to get a wide variety
of colors and shades
The final art piece
My bison, featured in the San Francisco Marathon,
right outside the bison paddock at Golden Gate Park
