Raw Clay Crows
Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center, Solomons, MD

Affiliated with the Smithsonian, Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center in Solomons, Maryland, features permanent sculptures and works on loan from the Smithsonian Institution and the National Gallery of Art.

For several weeks a year, during the Living Gallery residency program, the main gallery at Annmarie Garden is transformed into working studios hosting guest artists.

Residing in the artists' guest house, I worked in the main gallery from morning to dusk,

creating solid, unfired, soot dyed Raw Clay Crows.

Installed in the Sculpture Garden, the unfired Raw Clay Crows weakened over time; moistening and softening in wet seasons, drying and cracking in dry weather, they gradually succumb to the elements. The crows degrade until only a shadow of their existence remains on the ground as they slowly reunite with the ever-changing landscape.
