Painting the American Bison
Brush Creek Ranch, Saratoga WY
The Brush Creek residency is located in Wyoming - the first state to provide shelter for the last surviving bison in the U.S. Lodging on the 30,000 acre working ranch alongside fellow artists, working in a private studio; I dedicated my two week residency to research and compose paintings of the American Bison.
Bison in North America are a remarkable example of human influence on animals in the wild. From abundance to near extinction, now preserved and rising in numbers again - all due to human activity and interference.
During my residency, I was invited by Jim Beauprez of Eagle’s Wing Ranch in Colorado, to photograph his large bison herd. I use the wonderful photographs I captured, to create my bison painting series.
