Raw Clay Crows
Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center, Solomons, MD

​

Affiliated with the Smithsonian, Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center in Solomons, Maryland, features permanent sculptures and works on loan from the Smithsonian Institution and the National Gallery of Art.

​

​For several weeks a year, during the Living Gallery residency program, the main gallery at Annmarie Garden is transformed into working studios hosting guest artists.

​

​Residing in the artists' guest house, I worked in the main gallery from morning to dusk, 

creating solid, unfired, soot dyed Raw Clay Crows.

 

Installed in the Sculpture Garden, the unfired Raw Clay Crows weakened over time; moistening and softening in wet seasons, drying and cracking in dry weather, they gradually succumb to the elements. The crows degrade until only a shadow of their existence remains on the ground as they slowly reunite with the ever-changing landscape.
